Zaanse Schans – Volendam – Marken

Holland Tour Guides invites you to a real North Holland experience! Today we will visit the Zaanse Schans, have lunch in Volendam and we’re going to visit the island of Marken.

11.00 – 12.30 Visit Zaanse Schans

In a reserved coach, we take you to the Zaanse Schans. When you arrive there, the guide who traveled with you will take you in to along the age-old original green Zaandam wooden houses. These houses were brought to the Zaanse Schans from the whole Zaan region in the last century and the 12 (!) windmills which were already present were restored. It offers a spectacular and authentic image of the old Zaan region. On the terrain you can visit some windmills, amongst others paint mill De Kat (the only one in the world) and you can admire various trades. Really an unique experience!

13.00 – 14.00 Lunch in Volendam

We will then all, inclusive your guide, go to Volendam by coach. Since that will be in the afternoon we will first eat lunch as soon as we arrive.

14.00 – 15.00 Tour Volendam

After lunch we will walk through Volendam, along the harbor, over De Dijk (dike) and we will take a look at the fishing vessels and old houses which are often still occupied by the original people from Volendam, who often still wear traditional costumes. We will also visit an authentic cheese-making farm, which will show you how cheese used to be made.

15.00 – 16.30 Tour Marken

Of course the former island Marken will be visited as well! From the harbor in Volendam we will take the boat (the Marken Express) which will bring you to Marken. From afar you can already see the famous lighthouse of the island and the silhouette of the lighthouse and the extension will show you why it is called ‘The White Horse”. Marken is, just like Volendam, an old fishing village which almost completely consists of wooden houses. The original population usually still wears traditional costumes. It is a rather private community, which values traditions.

In Marken we take the coach again and we go back via Monnickendam to our point of departure. If you appreciate it, we can end this day with a collective dinner in a restaurant in one of the villages.
